What do you see?
We can see the words ‘Prayer for the Queen and the Royal Family.’ What do you see?
What do we know?
This is a printed prayer for the Queen and the Royal Family. It would have been recited in synagogue as part of the prayer service on a Saturday Morning. There has long been a tradition in Judaism to say a prayer on behalf of the ruling party, government or monarch of the country in which the community is living. It is a way of acknowledging the support the community has received and giving thanks on behalf of the community. However, this prayer is not a formalised part of the service in every country or community.
What do we wonder?
We might wonder if any member of the Royal family has been to a synagogue service? We might wonder if there are similar traditions in other countries where there are Jewish communities? What do you wonder?
