Special AHF & Cadw visit to Merthyr

The Foundation for Jewish Heritage was delighted to host a special visit to the Merthyr synagogue/Welsh Jewish Heritage Centre project by the senior leadership of the Architectural Heritage Fund – Chair Ros Kerslake, CEO Matthew McKeague, and Wales Development Manager Adam Hitchings, who were joined by the Head of Cadw Gwilym Hughes and Kate Roberts, Head of Cadw’s Historic Environment Branch.

The group spent over an hour in the building meeting with Foundation Chief Executive Michael Mail, Project Manager Neil Richardson and Lead Architect Ashley Davies. They received a detailed briefing on progress with the current Development Phase of the project, which is being funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Welsh Government and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council.

AHF had itself previously provided early stage funding to support the creation of a Business Plan, and Adam remains a key advisor to the project.

The project has received a number of distinguished visitors including Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford in 2023 and King Charles III in 2021.
