We are pleased to announce that The Lord Wolfson of Tredegar KC has agreed to serve as a Patron of the Merthyr Tydfil synagogue/Welsh Jewish Heritage Centre, joining Huw Edwards, David Baddiel and Sir Michael Moritz. Lord Wolfson has had a distinguished career as a barrister. He served as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice at the Ministry of Justice from 2020 to 2022. He was created Baron Wolfson of Tredegar in the County of Gwent in December 2020 and introduced to the House of Lords in January 2021. Lord Wolfson proudly has family roots in South Wales. Lord Wolfson remarked, “My family lived in Tredegar when we came to the UK, and my great-grandfather Aaron is buried in the cemetery in Merthyr. I’m honoured to be a Patron of the Merthyr Jewish Heritage Centre project and wish it every success.”
Dame Helen Hyde, Chair of the Foundation for Jewish Heritage, commented, “We are delighted that Lord Wolfson has agreed to become a Patron of the Merthyr Jewish Heritage Centre project. His association is another indication of the importance of this project and what we hope to achieve once the Heritage Centre is established.”
