A round-up of our recent work in the community

The Welsh Jewish Cultural Centre project team understands the importance of working with our local community, and we have a community engagement officer, Ashley Collins, based in Merthyr dedicating himself to keeping the community involved and updated on project progress.

Here's the latest update on some of the recent work Ash has been undertaking on site and around Merthyr:

  • We met with The Willows Youth Group in May, a community group based in based in Troedyrhiw, Merthyr Tydfil. Along with Ruth McKew, who is helping to plan activities for the future centre, they spoke about ideas and opinions on what they'd like to see inside the building. Lots of discussion about the ways young people could engage with the Cultural Centre came out of this meeting.

  • The young people took part in several activities at the meeting, including looking at an interactive timeline about key events in Jewish history - both locally and globally.

  • We also met with a local Welsh Language Group at Theatre Soar. We need to recognise and include the Welsh language in our project as it develops.

As we continue to work with our local community, we'll post more updates on our website.
